Scoring model
Score each point from 0 to 3. Use 0 for unknown or absent, 1 for informal, 2 for documented, and 3 for tested or operationally proven. The score is guidance for prioritisation, not an audit or certification.
Decision points
- 1. Critical services are mapped to platforms, vendors and owners.
- 2. Unsupported or end-of-life components are identified with business impact.
- 3. Backup recoverability has been tested, not only configured.
- 4. Monitoring covers availability, performance, capacity and security signals.
- 5. Patch cadence, change windows and rollback paths are documented.
- 6. Identity dependencies are visible for privileged and service accounts.
- 7. Incident response roles and escalation paths are understood.
- 8. Documentation is current enough for a new engineer to operate the service.
- 9. Third-party responsibilities are clear across managed and co-managed work.
- 10. Migration, virtualisation, replacement or retirement paths are compared.
- 11. Procurement can explain the risk reduced by each proposed change.
- 12. Leadership can sequence stabilisation before strategic redesign.
Results interpretation
- 0-14: discovery, ownership and evidence gathering should come first.
- 15-27: remediation planning is likely useful before major change.
- 28-36: the organisation may be ready for a more detailed delivery conversation.
Boundary
This checklist is practical guidance only. It is not an audit, certification, legal opinion or security guarantee. The value is in making risks, owners and evidence visible before spending starts.
